Study Diary

It's proving difficult to find time for the Spanish studies at the moment. We've had a lot of time with house guests this summer.

Still listening to a lot of podcasts (mainly BBC's Mundo and Radio Netherlands "Noticias") also re-working my way through LSLC Nivel Uno (up to Lección 14 so far).

Finished "En el tiempo de las mariposas", finally.

Started a few new books including "Los detectives salvajes" de Roberto Bolaño and "Malinche" de Laura Esquivel.

Not made it to Spanish class in three weeks!!
I hope to go next week.

Been listening to a lot of podcasts. Mostly noticias de BBC Mundo y Radio Nederland. Also general news features from W Radio (D.F. México) and Caracol Radio (Colombia).

Re-started LSLC Nivel Uno (just because the CD was in my car) and have done the first ten lessons.

Also, yesterday (07/26) finished Jorge Ramos' autobiography.
So now I'm back to reading "En el tiempo de las mariposas" (about half way through).

Logged onto Busuu.com for the first time in a long while and corrected a bunch of posts by Spanish-speaking students who are learning English.

Finished LSLC Nivel Dos (up to Lección 60).

Listened to Las Noticias en español (BBC Mundo Radio y RNW: Radio Nederland)
also listened to podcasts from Caracol Radio (Colombia) and W Radio (México).

Realized that one of my current books is due back at the library soon, so I'm putting more effort into trying to finish it : "Atravesando Fronteras" de Jorge Ramos.

While eating breakfast, read a few pages of "En el tiempo de las mariposas" by Juila Álvarez - really enjoying the book so far. Good level - not getting stuck too often.

On the way into work - listened to "Piolin por la mañana" for a while - he had a call-in spot "¿Qué te cae más gordo?" (loose translation "What drives you nuts the most?") - only understood about 50% of the conversations, but it was funny.

Finished Leccíon 59 (of 60) of LSLC - Nivel Dos.

Listened to some Michel Thomas "Advanced Spanish" on the way home. (Imperfect subjunctive + conditional.)

On the drive into work:

Listened to an immigration lawyer (abogada de inmigración) giving advice to listeners who called in with questions.

One interesting piece of advice was to get as many petitions going as possible (e.g. one because of status of brother, one for status of mother-in-law, etc.) because the situation of a person they're relying on to get them citizenship might change (leaving their petition useless).

Finished LSLC Nivel 2 Lección 57.
